Haulover Sandbar vs. Nixon Sandbar: Which One Should You Visit?

Both are on our list of go-to sandbar stops, and both give you the same basic magic: shallow, crystal-clear water where you can anchor, swim, and float without ever touching a beach towel. But they're pretty different experiences, and which one's right for you depends on what kind of day you're after.

Haulover Sandbar

Haulover is the livelier of the two — it's one of the most popular boating spots in Miami, which means on weekends and holidays you'll find a real scene: music, socializing, boats rafted up together. It's a great pick if part of the appeal of your day is the energy of being around other boats, and it's close to Haulover Inlet, which keeps travel time short from our Collins Ave departure point. The tradeoff is exactly what makes it fun for some groups and not others — it can get crowded, and if quiet and private is more your speed, it's not that.

Nixon Sandbar

Nixon is the quieter option — calmer water, fewer boats, more room to actually spread out. It's the better choice for families with young kids, for a relaxed afternoon where the point is floating and talking rather than being part of a scene, or for anyone who wants the crystal-clear-water experience without the crowd that comes with it.

So which should you pick?

If you want energy, music, and a bit of a Miami boating "scene," go Haulover. If you want calm water, more space, and a slower pace — especially with kids or if you're after a romantic, low-key day — go Nixon. Honestly, we get asked this constantly, and our answer is usually the same: tell your captain what kind of day you're picturing when you book, and they'll pick the better stop for your group that day based on conditions and crowds anyway.
